Proud Granddaughter

I remember boasting about my grandmother to my kindergarten friends proudly showing her off going, "Ini nenek kita!" with a smirk on my face. I would always want her to be on my cheer squad in any event I participated in and up until today, she is still one of the firsts I call to share my triumph story or latest achievements. One time when I was a kid I had asked my grandmother why whatever she or mommy had made had always tasted so good. Was it because they both had years of cooking experience?

She had laughed and told me that "Air tangan ibu tu yang jadikan makanan sedap". I didn't get it at first, mind you I was only seven back then. But over the years, I learnt that it’s the unconditional love that mothers put into their cooking that made their dishes unforgettable. Mums are awesome, they be making junk food look and taste like fine dining.

Anyway, I’ve been meaning to take my grandmother to the flower and garden festival, Royal FLORIA in Putrajaya but she was feeling under the weather last week. So yesterday, I went to fetch her in the evening and we left for Putrajaya at night because she loves the city night lights just as much as I do. We were overwhelmed by the crowd when we arrived and decided to skip the festival because we could tell she wasn’t going to enjoy looking at the flowers what with the multitude of people swarming the exhibition.

We played tourist around the city instead and it was so much fun! We took photos in front of this huge building and only after the photo session we asked, “Nenek tau tak ni bangunan apa?” and she said no. Of course we had a good laugh looking at her facial expression change after explaining all relevant information to her about the building hee hee.

Nonetheless, it was a wonderful night but it also made me realise that the hardest part about growing up is seeing those around us grow old and feeble. I am seriously too family-oriented and it scares me so much to board that plane in September. May Allah grant my parents, my family and my loved ones strength and happiness, increase in Rizq, forgive them for their shortcomings and grant us a long healthy life and most importantly, the highest level of Jannah, Ameen.

Matching Skechers with my soon-to-be 90 (inshaAllah) grandma!
