Before Sunrise

Was mindlessly scrolling through Netflix when I discovered the movie Before Sunrise. It is a movie so real I fell in love with its simplicity. Not the usual Hollywood clichés and nothing too sentimental, I have to admit it is definitely one of the best romantic movies that I have ever watched. The script, the characters, how it is dialogue-based with a minimalist plot – I was so mesmerized by it all. I could totally relate to the sheer honesty of life itself that was portrayed in the movie.

Practically everything is romanticized these days and unfortunately, it is all too common that we mistake lust for love. But honestly though, this movie goes beyond all that. It’s about two strangers who can talk about anything and everything under the sun. I think it is absolutely beautiful to find someone that is in love with your mind. Someone who is eager to know your every thought. To be able to strike up compelling conversations and to speak without regret or fear of consequences. My deep affection for intelligent conversations made me love the movie more than I thought I would have.

While the film may sound like a boring chick flick, it is anything but. If you like thought-provoking, intellectual discussions maybe a notch higher than your regular mundane thoughts, this is the movie for you. A true gem for sure.

"I always feel this pressure of being a strong and independent icon of womanhood, and without making it look my whole life is revolving around some guy. But loving someone, and being loved means so much to me. We always make fun of it and stuff. But isn’t everything we do in life a way to be loved a little more?"
—  Julie Delpy, Before Sunrise (1995).
